Keeping your MeacoDry in good working condition isn’t as daunting as it sounds. Your air filter is a driving force behind the dehumidifier, with the bucket collecting water, the air filter is pivotal in extracting dust and other large particles from the air in your home.
If the air filter is not properly cleaned it can result in the MeacoDry dehumidifier to stop functioning. The air filter is crucial in protecting the parts inside the dehumidifier and cleaning the dry air in the room. If the air filter is dirty or covered in dust, the dehumidifier will not do its job as the air will not be able to pass through. There are several common problems that can arise from a filthy air filter: the unit will not be able to collect water, the unit will continue to work but reduce the humidity level insufficiently/there will be little water in the tank, or it can even result in a noisy dehumidifier.
What a dirty MeacoDry ABC filter can look like if it’s not cleaned properly:
As the case cover for the ABC has hexagon shapes on them, the settled dust has hexagon shapes – it takes a lot of dirt/dust to do that!
What a MeacoDry ABC filter should look like:
With a large number of our customers unsure about how to clean the air filters, we have narrowed it down to a list of 4 tips on how to keep the air filter in your dehumidifier clean:
1. Recognising when it needs to be cleaned:
This might seem like an obvious step, however, it often happens that the dirt and dust collected goes unnoticed on an air filter.
2. Removing the filter:
For our MeacoDry ABC dehumidifiers there are two different filters: a normal filter (10L and 12L model) and a combined filter and filter case (20L model) – they both do the same job.
MeacoDry ABC 10L and 12L – the filter can be removed from inside the case.
MeacoDry ABC 20L – the filter and filter case are combined; they cannot be separated.
3. Cleaning the air filter with a wet cloth or hoover:
To clean the air filter, you can carefully vacuum it using your hoover, or if the suction of the hoover is too strong, you can also use a damp cloth and warm soapy water, to gently wipe the dirt away. The water should be no hotter than 40°C. Once all the dust has been rinsed off, simply dry the dehumidifier filter with a tea towel before placing it back in the dehumidifier.
4. Clean the filter every 2 weeks at minimum:
The MeacoDry ABC air filter is a life-long filter which should not have to be replaced, except for reasons of wear and tear. With regular use, the filter will collect dust and dirt particles, meaning that it must be cleaned every two weeks, at minimum. Not doing so could invalidate the dehumidifier’s warranty.
If you will not be using your MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier for a long time, make sure to clean the filter and keep the device stored in a dust-free area away from direct sunlight, ideally covered in a sheet of plastic.

Why is a customer not able to clean the coils?
The filter, despite being regularly cleaned, has not prevented dust building up on the coils.
I imagine Meaco charge for this service but it strikes me that the unit should not allow dust inside in the first place.
What is the charge and how is a customer supposed to get the device to Meaco and back again?
Paul,
Thank you for your enquiry. Individuals who operate or work on the refrigerant circuit must have the appropriate certification issued by a national accredited organisation that ensures competence in handling flammable refrigerants according to a specific evaluation recognised by national associations in the industry and compliant with the latest R32 guidance. Servicing should only be carried out by a Meaco approved engineer using original Meaco parts to prevent damage to the unit and potential injury to the engineer.
Going inside any device that is mains powered can be very dangerous and there is always a risk of death and should not be undertaken lightly. It is also illegal to work on a compressor based device if you are not F-Gas registered. We do not recommend any DIY repairs. Always best to contact our team who will always do their best to help wherever possible.
If you contact us via our contact option on our website, our team will be able to review your unit and advise of servicing costs.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
How do I clean the dehumidifier sensor for humidity sensing does it need cleaning on the meaco 25L
Darryl,
Thank you for your question.
Your sensor is a key piece of equipment to be maintained in order to give accurate readings and extraction.
A few notes and tips:
As long as the filter is kept clean then the dehumidifier will give you a reliable room reading.
It will be worth making sure that the filter is clean so that the air is getting to the sensor.
Clean the filters and blow the humidity sensor behind the filter through with a hair dryer.
Hope this helps.

Hi there
Will a dirty filter stop the d
Laundry function working??
Roy,
Thank you for your enquiry.
The answer is yes, please note:
The dust filter is a life-long filter and therefore should not need to be replaced (other than for wear and tear reasons). When used regularly, the filter may become clogged with dust and dirt particles. The filter must be cleaned a minimum of every two weeks (not doing so could invalidate the units’ warranty).
Remove the dust filter from the dehumidifier. Clean the dust filter with the end of a hoover or soapy water no hotter than 40°C. Rinse and dry completely before inserting back into the dehumidifier.
I hope that helps,
Omar@Meaco.
Hi, is there an updated version of the original filter, ie:- Hepa filter
Mick,
Thank you for your question. The ABC can only have a dust filter, Arete can have a HEPA filter.
Chris
Who can clean the coils?
That is a job for our engineers only.
Chris, are you a dehumidifier engineer desperate for work? 🙂
Of course they can access the coils to clean them, it’s not rocket science, illegal or dangerous.
Take photo’s or video for reference.
Make sure the machine is unplugged, remove the filter, remove the bucket, unscrew the casing, use a soft brush and/or a vacuum.
Put it back together.
Job done. Plenty of help on YouTube videos.

Hi just looked at filter un done it dose it have a separate filter that comes out .Took white piece of no separate filter it’s a merco abc 12 litre dehumidifier have been useing bit worried now thought it had a separate filter when back taken of I see screws inside not going to attempt to touch thankyou
If you cannot put your finger through the filter case that removes off the rear of the machine then your filter is there and fitted.
Yes it should have a separate filter that comes with it. The outer case cover has a mesh fitted and then there should be a separate removable washable filter. We have just received the 10L model with this filter missing and have requested they send us one, l suggest you should do the same.
No, as of summer 2022 the filter is all in one. If you cannot put your finger through the holes then the filter is there!
I do this regularly but the metal filter (I guess coils) are behind a fixed plastic grill. How do I clean this, it’s looking like it has build up on it.
That is not a filter, that is the cooling coils that the filter is trying to keep clean for you. Cleaning the filter regularly will protect them, you cannot access the internals and clean them yourself.
