At this time of year when the mercury drops below freezing we often get phone calls from customers saying that their dehumidifier is not working. The problem is usually that it is not collecting any water and yet they still get condensation on their windows. Frustrating but there is very little that can be done.
A dehumidifier removes the excess moisture from the air but what you do not want the dehumidifier to do is to dry the air so much (below 30%rh) that you start to get dry skin, sore throats and static shocks. So a dehumidifier does not dry the air down to this level but when the outside air temperature drops down below freezing you do not need much moisture in the air for condensation to form.
All you can do is to run your dehumidifier on it’s maximum setting which will lower the relative humidity further (to about 40%rh) and reduce the amount of condensation on the windows. But it would be a waste of energy to reduce the relative humidity so low that the condensation is eliminated completely and no-one really wants to live in a home where static shocks are the norm and we suffer from constant sore throats and dry skin.
Thankfully in Britain these cold spares are rare and after a week or so we can get back to normal and the dehumidifier will once more have things under control.

Hi, my 20L dehumidifier doesn’t stop
running when it reaches the target (set at 55) – how can I fix this ?
Hi,
Thank you for your comment, please allow it to drop below the target for it to turn off, please see below:
Once the target of 55%rh has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop. Every 30 minutes the fan will run and check the humidity level, the dehumidifying indicator will turn off. If the humidity level has increased more than 3% above the target, the compressor will turn on and the dehumidifier will start to run again – the dehumidifying indicator will be solid. If the humidity level is within 3% of the target, the dehumidifier will go back to sleep and check the humidity level in another 30 minutes.
I hope this helps.

Hello. The humidifier only works for ten minutes and stops and does not collect water at all. I changed the filter and no effect. I have 50 and still no effect. Some suggestions. Thank you
Hello!
Let’s try and figure out what’s happening. We can do so by putting the machine in an environment which MUST collect water, therefore:
1. After a hot & steamy shower, turn off your extractor fan, close any bathroom windows and bring your machine to the entrance of the bathroom.
2. Activate the CO mode and allow it to run for 4-5 hours.
The above scenario will force the machine by surrounding it with humidity.
Try this, if still no water, email us your proof of purchase and serial number to customerservice AT meaco.com
Hello i have a Meaco 12 L humidifier and i dosent collect Any moisture But it works properly. Why??
Hello,
If your dehumidifier isn’t collecting any water, it could be that the target set is more than the current humidity, meaning there is nothing for the machine to work towards.
By clicking on the humidistat button you can check the target number (this is the flashing number), the ideal target is about 50/55%rh.
Please let us know if you get on fine, otherwise we may need to investigate further, you can then email us on customerservice AT meaco.com
Hi – my new Arete dehumidifier was working but is now seemingly somehow locked but the child lock light is not illuminated. When I turn it on at the wall, the screen flashes ’05’ several times before then returning to the smart dehumidifier display. The night mode light is on, but the child lock light is not on. None of the buttons do anything at all
Hi, thanks for your recent purchase. Please can you try pressing the night mode button twice OR hold and press night mode button for around 3 seconds.
This should release back to standard operation.
Kind regards,
Omar.
I have got a CL CODE and it says tk press for two seconds to reset. But then the machine just does not turn on?
Any ideas…
That is child lock, to remove it on Arete you press night Mode for three or four seconds, the machine should then return to normal.
Hi Chris. Would like some advice please. We have a 7 mt X 4mt lounge which has a large bay window, and the bay window is covered in condensation top and bottom of the 5 windows. We have just bought a Blyss 16LT dehumidifier which we have placed under the bay window. How long should we leave it on for during the day , or should we leave it on all night Thank you
Set it to 50%rh if the windows are double glazed, 40%rh if they are old or single glazed.
(next time try a Meaco!)
