How to choose the right fan for you

Ever wondered which fan would best suit you and your home? As the summer warmth is here to stay, we explore the different fan options!

There are a lot of similarities between the different fans available but we often have different demands when it comes to where we’ll use them or how close to them we plan to be. Which fan would be best for a work from home desk? How would you best keep the whole family cool while sitting in the lounge on a hot summer’s day?

We take a look at the MeacoFan range to answer your questions on how to choose the best fan for you.

As the warmer weather arrives, we find ourselves thinking about needing to stay cool during hot summer days and very warm uncomfortable nights.

You may have been looking at buying a fan for your home or workplace. But deciding which fan is best for you isn’t always easy as there are many types available. When it comes to picking the right one, there are a few important factors you should take into consideration.

Knowing where you’ll place it, can help you choose which fan is best for you

Firstly, where will you use it? Do you need a fan for your desk, your bedside table, the kitchen side or the sitting room? The space where you want it to sit can help you determine the size of fan that you’ll buy.

If you only have a small space like a windowsill or the edge of your work desk to put your fan on. Then, a smaller one is likely to make more sense.

You might also be looking to move the fan from room to room or, perhaps, take it out with you for the day. So a portable fan, running off a single USB cable or battery operated will be the one to look out for.

Deciding how close to the fan you will be is key to deciding which fan to go for

Another thing to think about, is how close to the fan you’ll be. If you’re going to have it very close to you, for example next to your head in bed or the table next to your computer. Then a smaller fan, might again, be better.

But if you’re looking to position the fan further away, perhaps in the centre of the sitting room to cool the whole family. Then, a larger fan would be better with its much more powerful air flow.

Think about whether your fan needs height and where in the room it will sit

You also need to consider where the fan will sit. If it’s in a bedroom, you might want the fan at the bottom of the bed but have nothing to sit it on. In this case, a pedestal fan will be best as it can stand on the floor and it’s tall enough to keep you cool in bed. This will also be the same in the lounge, but in this case, make sure the pedestal fan is tall enough to blow the air over items like armchairs and sofas.

Have you considered whether you want an integrated light on your fan?

Finally, have a think about whether you want a night light or not. For those of you wanting a dim light while you sleep, whether it’s for you or your child, many fans have an optional night light. They can offer you a reassuring light at night. Alternatively, many fans have the option to turn any display and sound off entirely. If you prefer total darkness and don’t want to be disturbed by any potential beeping sounds.

  1. I am interested in either the 650 or 10″table. My bedroom is quite small and the fan will need to be placed on top of a chest of drawers so slightly higher than bed level. What would be best can either be directed slightly downwards?

    1. Beverley,

Thank you for your enquiry. The 10″ Sefte is our newer, more advanced model with significantly more airflow. Its sensor is conveniently located on a front-facing panel for easy access, as shown in the product images. In contrast, the 650’s sensor sits on the dashboard at base level.

Regarding downward tilt, the 10″ Sefte offers much greater flexibility with adjustable angles of 20°, 30°, and 65°, allowing you to direct airflow well downward. The 650 only tilts down manually by about 5°, which is much less.

So, if you’re placing the fan higher than bed level and want to direct air downward effectively, the 10″ Sefte is the better choice.

      I hope that helps,

  2. Great article! I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of Fan options out there, and your guide really helped break things down in a simple and practical way. I especially appreciated the tips on choosing between pedestal, tower, and ceiling fans based on room size and airflow needs. I hadn’t considered noise level and energy efficiency before, but now I see how important those factors are. Thanks for the helpful advice – I feel much more confident in making the right choice now!

  3. Hi

What is the difference between the Pedestal Air Circulator 1056p and the Sefte 10” please, and which one is the newer model.

    Many thanks

    1. Mrs Montgomery,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

The Sefte 10” is the newer model compared to the Pedestal Air Circulator 1056P. It features an upgraded DC motor that provides a larger volume of air output, a redesigned face for better airflow, lower noise levels, and improved durability in addition to the design differences. It also offers a more cost-effective option.

      Hope that helps,
      Omar@Meaco

  4. Hi, I am looking for the best table fan to help with hot conditions in the loft. Which would be the best choice.
    Thanks

    1. Stuart,

Thank you for your enquiry. Our latest and best option would be the MeacoFan Sefte® 10″ Table Air Circulator with Storage Bag!

It moves more air while using less energy, it also features multi-directional oscillation, which means it doesn’t just blow air in one direction. It helps keep air circulating evenly across the room, making it a great fit for warmer, enclosed spaces like lofts.

Get in touch if you had further questions, I hope that helps.

  5. hi,

How’s the airflow of MeacoFan Sefte® 10″ Table Air compare to the MeacoFan Sefte® 10″ Pedestal? is the Pedestal more powerful in moving the air?

    Thanks,
    Sean

    1. Sean,

Thank you for your enquiry. The airflow is exactly the same between the MeacoFan Sefte 10″ Table and the Pedestal version.

They use the same fan head, just with a different body design. As shown in the technical overview on the product pages, all the key specs including airflow output are identical. It really comes down to where you’d prefer to position the fan in your space.

      I hope that helps,
      Omar@Meaco.
