Britain has been experiencing the lowest recorded temperatures since 1995, as a result of the return of the “Beast from the East”. As temperatures drop, the humidity in the air plummets too, causing the air to be drier than usual. Cranking up the heating system is a natural response to combat the freezing conditions, but this only makes the indoor air even drier. Which can cause damage to health and home.
It might be time to invest in a humidifier to add moisture inside your property.
What is a humidifier?
A humidifier is a machine that raises the amount of water vapour in the air within an indoor living space. The ideal humidity level indoors should be between 35 – 50%. Humidity can be measured by using a smart piece of equipment like a hygrometer, however there are simpler ways to spot changes.
Here are five tell-tale signs to watch out for:
Cold-like symptoms
Waking up with a congested nose or a scratchy throat is common during the cold winter months. Persistent sneezing and coughing isn’t neccessarily an indication that you’re coming down with a cold but a sign of low indoor humidity.
Remember, your pets are also susceptible to the negative effects of cold dry air and may also fall victim to the odd cough or sneeze. Freshening the air with a humidifier is one sure way of keeping the whole family healthy.
Dry and itchy skin
Have you noticed that your skin tends to be dry, itchy or flaky in cold weather? Or perhaps you’re reaching the lip balm to soothe your chapped lips too often? These are subtle signs that your skin is thirsty for moisture. Keep hydrated by drinking water and switch on a humidifier.
Cracking wood floors and furniture
Creaking floorboards or cracks in wooden furniture is not a sign that the house is getting old and needs refurbishing. The lack of moisture causes the wood to contract, resulting in warped flooring or cracks in furniture.
Too much static electricity
Static Shock is a rare but annoying aspect of the cold weather and is another indication that the room needs moisture.
Out of tune instruments
Practice makes perfect but if you’ve been practising for hours on your piano or guitar and the sound is slightly out of tune – you’re not to blame. Wooden instruments need to be stored in a place with well-balanced humidity levels to prevent warping and splitting.
Guaranteed hydration
The Meaco Deluxe 202 Humidifier & Air Purifier uses ultrasonic micro-vibrations splits water into very small droplets that are fanned into the air, creating a pleasant, warm, or cooled visible mist. It is this gentle mist that helps remedy the problems caused by dry air. Alleviating cold-like symptoms and adding moisture to dry skin.
Sterilised air humidifier
The Meaco Deluxe comes with a HEPA filter that removes physical allergens from the air and a charcoal filter that removes odours. An inbuilt aroma diffuser allows a person to add a favourite essence to the air, while an ioniser keeps the air fresh. The water is cleaned by an ultraviolet lamp prior to humidification so ensuring the humidified air that is breathed in has been sterilised first. This unique combination of sterilisation of the water before humidification and the HEPA and charcoal cleaning the air makes the Meaco Deluxe 202 Humidifier well placed for providing a clean air solution for a wide range of users.
Meaco has been helping regulate and manage air moisture in properties since 1991, first in museums and art galleries and then in people’s homes. The launch of the Meaco Deluxe 202 Humidifier & Air Purifier is the next step in providing a clean air solution with this humidifier and air purifier all-in-one.

Useful info thanks. Just moved into a ground floor flat build c1960 and found it had quite bad condensation. I’ve been running my new Meaco 10L and am amazed at the amount of water it’s collecting. Hoping that the dehumidifier will help to sort it out
