The new DD8L Zambezi dehumidifier is named after a young elephant at the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Elephant Orphanage in Zambia which looks after elephant’s whose mothers have been killed by poachers.
Zambezi was found in a local hotel swimming pool having fallen in trying to get a drink of water. Staff from the orphanage and the hotel rescued Zambezi and took him back to the orphanage.
Zambezi is a very playful and distinctive elephant with his Mohican hairstyle and his habit of climbing each day into the middle of a V shaped tree where he would sit and watch the other elephants. That is until he grew too large for the tree and got stuck one day!
Zambezi has even made a brief appearance on television featuring on the ITV show Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans when he visited the centre in Lusaka.
The latest news for Zambezi is that he has now been weaned and he was moved in March to a release facility in Kafue National Park along with another elephant called Musolole which takes him one step closer to a life free in the wild.
For every DD8L Zambezi sold we will donate £2 to the DSWF to support their vital conservation work, you can follow Zambezi’s progress via their website here.
