Designed in Britain for British environments, the first in a new range of dehumidifiers is the Arete One, with a 20L and 25L capacity, Arete One 20L has received the Quietmark award.
During the winter months, preventing damp and the build-up of moisture in a boat can be a headache. Using a dehumidifier can help prevent mould damage to organic materials like upholstery or rust on metal parts
There are many reasons people will buy a dehumidifier. The obvious one is to reduce humidity, thereby reducing condensation and preventing the growth of mould, and protecting property. But a dehumidifier can also improve health, contribute to a good night’s sleep, and transform the way laundry is dried. Nearly five years of development by Meaco involving gathering the feedback from over 2000 customers about what they liked and disliked about their Meaco dehumidifiers has resulted in a product that can do all this and more. The overriding feedback was that dehumidifiers have too many buttons which can be confusing, with most users wanting to be able to simply switch on their machine, walk away, and for it to get the job done. Meaco has designed the Arete One to do just that. The machine does all the work, working out humidity levels and fan speeds, so simplifying the whole process.
As the relative humidity changes Arete One will constantly be checking and adjusting its performance to keep things under control. When the relative humidity is 15% above the target relative humidity, Arete One will run in maximum fan speed to bring the relative humidity down as fast as possible. When the humidity has been reduced below that figure then the machine will slow down to the low fan speed. This results in the best balance between fast dehumidification and the lowest possible noise level. According to one Arete customer, “Damp is quite a big issue in our new home. This dehumidifier looks good, is not too intrusive and works wonders to reduce the humidity in our 4 bed house. I really can’t believe it draws out so much in 24 hours! We bought some humidity monitors for around the house and our average humidity has gone down from 70% to 50%.”
As well as ease of use, a deciding factor when buying a dehumidifier was noise levels. Meaco addressed this by developing its quietest dehumidifiers ever produced. At 40 and 41dB they are twice as quiet as the industry standard, and with many people using their dehumidifier close to the bedroom, this is an important feature. The Night Mode is another customer led feature that will ensure a good night’s sleep for all, as in this setting every light is turned off, fan speed drops to the quiet low mode, and there are no bleeps or sudden noises. Another customer commented, “This new unit is much quieter than the old one and definitely extracts water more quickly despite only using an extra 40 watts or so. I’m also pleased that (like the old model) it allows the use of HEPA filters and they are reasonably priced.”
As Arete One comes with a medical grade H13 HEPA filter, it doubles as an air purifier, especially useful for users with health concerns, or with babies and young children. With more people becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of clean air in the home, the filter was designed to be 75% larger than on previous Low Energy models, delivering effective year-round air purification. This can easily be cleaned from the side without having to move the unit. Arete One can be used to clean the air during dehumidification or as a stand-alone air purifier throughout the spring and summer months.
For laundry drying, a Smart Laundry mode ensures fast clothes drying combined with exceptionally low running costs as the machine optimises its performance. A smart intelligence feature monitors the humidity around the clothes as they dry with a maximum dehumidification for 6 hours. The smart control switches the compressor back on if the humidity rises again and the energy saving smart control switches off the compressor but keeps the fan running when no more drying is required.
Arete has been stylishly designed to blend in with its surroundings. By fitting flat against a wall it takes up less space, a massive priority to customers in the survey. Feet hide its casters that enable it to be easily moved when required. Another customer commented, “Totally happy with the design as it blends in with my modern interior design. I am so happy to have chosen Meaco!” The control panel on Arete One is simple and clearly laid out. The buttons used the most often are large; the buttons hardly ever used are small.
A feature that makes Arete One unique, and is a game changer for the user, is the optional water pump allowing for continuous drainage so the dehumidifier will not stop when the water tank is full. For those using a dehumidifier in a space where the tank cannot be emptied every day, or do not want the inconvenience of having to manually lift and empty a tank, the pump will do the job for you, taking the water away to a sink, bath or even out of a window. The pump fits inside the Arete’s water tank and will lift water away to a height of 2.5 meters. This has been exclusively designed for the Arete One 20 and 25L dehumidifiers and is powered by the dehumidifier’s own internal power supply. It requires no tools to fit and comes with a 3m drain hose.
For those manually emptying the tank, this has been made as simple as possible. The large 4.8 litre tank, designed to meet the machine’s high extraction rate, can be removed using two very large slots left and right of the machine that fingers naturally drop into. It can then be placed flat on the floor and lifted by its colour coded handle. It can also be poured from either side, via two slots, removing the need to twist awkwardly to pour.
Arete One comes with a five-year parts and labour warranty. A warranty of this length is unique in the industry, and a further sign of the confidence Meaco has in the quality of the Arete range. On the launch of Arete One and the initial feedback from customers, Chris Michael, Managing Director of Meaco commented, “We are very proud of our British design and the extremely positive feedbacks we are getting from customers. Arete is a game changer for British families, making living with a dehumidifier so much more of a joy. Customers can just switch on the machine and know the job will be done, without having to worry about it.”

I have a 20l model, about a year old now, and find that in night mode the fan speed changes with an audible clunk, so it is clearly not running at low speed at all times in this mode. I also notice when it is running in high speed it sometimes sounds a little like the rhythmic sound of a washing machine. I do clean the filter regularly but am beginning to wonder if mine is faulty?
John,
Thank you for reaching out. It’s normal for the fan speed to change in night mode, as the unit may need to increase the fan speed when humidity levels rise. This ensures that the dehumidifier continues to perform effectively. Once the humidity levels return to your desired range, the fan speed will lower again.
Regarding the noise, the rhythmic sound you’re hearing is likely due to the fan speed adjustments. However, if you’re concerned about the noise or feel something may be wrong, please send a video of the unit running to our customer service support team, and they’ll be happy to assist further.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
My new Meaco Arete One 12l is great.
It says that when in night mode the fan will slow down but mine doesn’t seem to change at all?
Amanda,
Thank you for your question. The AreteOne has only two fan speeds, and during laundry mode, you’ll hear the higher fan speed. If you notice no change in night mode, it’s likely because it’s already operating on fan speed 1.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
My Meaco Arete One 20L when it’s set to say 55% when it hits the target the compressor will stop and the dehumidifier light will go out but the fan keeps on running and dose not turn off like it’s meant to?
Asheley,
The answer is yes, please see below for the programming of this:
Once the target of 55%rh has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop. Every 30 minutes the fan will run and check the humidity level, the dehumidifying indicator will turn off. If the humidity level has increased more than 3% above the target, the compressor will turn on and the dehumidifier will start to run again.
Hope this helps.
Omar@Meaco.
Do you have any estimate on when the 12l Arete would be back in stock at all?
Argos will take a large delivery on the 17th February.
Do the Arete One 10 and 12 litre models have a drain pipe?
Jim,
None of the Arete dehumidifiers come with a drainage hose to reduce plastic waste. But all they need is a length of garden hose as they are designed to be a perfect fit for normal garden hose that you probably have anyway.
Chris
When can we expect them to be back in stock, I can’t find them anywhere?
Demand is racing ahead of supply at the moment, more stocks will arrive later in November.
