This is the most common question that we are getting at the moment. Phone call after phone call telling us that their dehumidifier never seems to turn off and it is collecting lots and lots of water. Is this normal people ask us?
The answer is yes.
The Explanation – Why it’s normal.
The dehumidifiers have a built in humidistat that measures the temperature and relative humidity of the room and tells the dehumidifier whether to sleep or dehumidify. If you have a house that has never had a dehumidifier in it before then the dehumidifier will be running flat out for around two to four weeks while it dries out all of the air in the house and then the organic material in the house (wood, clothing, furniture, paper, books etc.) releases all of the moisture into the air that they have been holding on to, giving the dehumidifier more work to do.
As well as the above you are also putting moisture into the air each day (bathing, showering, cooking, breathing etc.) and this slows down the process of getting to a point whereby the humidity is low enough for the dehumidifier to turn off for a rest.
Then there is the weather, if it is raining a lot then the dehumidifier will run for longer. When it has caught up and brought things under control you will find that your dehumidifier turns off and then you will settle into a cycle of on/off/on/off as required.
After all you bought the dehumidifier to dry your house and that is exactly what it is doing for you. So don’t be too hard on your poor old dehumidifier!

Hi, I have recently purchased an Arete One 12L. It’s being used at night in night mode. The last couple of nights the fan changes to high and back to low again at 30 min intervals. To note the target humidity has not been reached.
James,
Thank you for reaching out about your Arete One 12L dehumidifier.
It’s normal for the fan speed to change as the unit adjusts to maintain the desired humidity levels. If the target humidity hasn’t been reached yet, the fan may switch between high and low to optimize performance. To note having recently purchased your unit do allow for a longer period of time before you see the target humidity achieved, humidity fluctuates daily!
If you have any additional questions please ask, otherwise I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
Hi, please correct me if I am wrong. I have just purchased a 20L Meaco low energy dehumidifier.
If its collecting water from my tank then is it in CO Mode, is that correct.
I pluged it in yesterday & it has not stopped once working, I also set it to 50 percent.
I am just worried that it will never stop & my electric bill will go up higher.
Thank you
AW
Alan,
Thank you for your enquiry. Collecting water doesn’t necessarily mean your dehumidifier is on continuous mode, if you have set it to 50 as the target then that will be it’s target to reach, continuous cold take you below that number. Please revert to your user manual which covers this and more! https://www.meaco.com/pages/instruction-manuals
Hope that helps,
Omar@Meaco.
Hello
I switched the dehumidifer at 9am ( humidity was 66 – aim 55 ,it has been running constantly ever since, the room beside the machine temp was 23c.
Dehumidifer gone down to 53 at 8.30pm – it,s still running.
The other thing is the dehumidifer light goes off but not the machine it just keeps running, and when the light does goes off the fan goes into the full speed mode but with the light on it: goes into the low fan speed. Night mode is full speed mode
That is the dehumidifer switched off by itself now at 8 40pm after nearly 12 hrs constant running.
Bathroom door closed no washing done, no wet clothes about and 1 person household , no rain in afternoon, sunny day,
Outisde weather dry in the afternoon with sunshine .
I am waited 10 mins to empty tank which was only half full in near 12 hrs .
Is it normal to run that long constantly -and why is the fan at the top speed when the dehumidifer light is off but slow speed when on? this is the first time it took that long without switching off at all
Agnes,
Thank you for your enquiry
It appears your your target is 55, you saw 66 then you say 53 by night (target reached) but the dehumidifier was running – did you know that this is part of the design? See text below regarding this:
Once the target of 55%rh has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop, only when the humidity is stable and not fluctuation, the dehumidifier runs until it is stable at -3%. Every 30 minutes the fan will run and check the humidity level, could it be this moment that you are experiencing thinking it runs all the time? If the humidity level has increased more than 3% above the target, the compressor will turn on and the dehumidifier will start to run again – the dehumidifying indicator will be solid. If the humidity level is within 3% of the target, the dehumidifier will go back to sleep and check the humidity level in another 30 minutes. When the humidity level is 15%rh above the set target, the dehumidifier will be in high fan speed; when the humidity level is 15%rh within the target, the dehumidifier will be in low fan speed.
Regarding your night mode query, the only reason it will do this is if the ambient humidity is +20% more than setpoint (ie you have set at 55% but room is 75%) it will then revert to low fan once the gap has dropped.
Your dehumidifier eventually switched off – great sign of it working as it should, 8:30 it was running at 53%rh and then 10 minutes later it turned off, doing as aforementioned.
In one day your dehumidifier collected hall a tank and reduced the humidity from 66%rh to 55%rh and it turned off with water inside the tank as proof, seems like all is normal.
Please do take the time to read through your instruction manual, you will find it very useful to answer these types of questions and many more.
Hope that helps,
Omar@Meaco
The other day my dehumidifier was still running a reading 36. And it is set to 55. It was hot. As the weather outside was hot but humid. So I turned it off. I’ve noticed tonight it’s turning on at 48 when it is set to 55. I was wondering if you thought this is normal or it has a problem. Many thanks Joni
Joni,
Thank you for your enquiry, please note your dehumidifier will always turn on regardless of the target, reason being to check the status of the humidity, thereafter it’ll stay on or turn off if humidity hasn’t risen above the target, please reference to your user manual for more information.
Hope that helps,
Omar@Meaco.
Omar my Arete one is 2 weeks old it’s been working perfectly until today. My target humidity is 55 it normally turns off at 52 but it was still running at 48 ? What’s going on can you please advise ?
Rob,
Thank you for your question.
If it’s still running at 48% humidity when it typically turns off at 52%, there could be a few reasons for this behavior.
Target & Mode – check it was on smart humidity mode, or a set target of 55% and not 50%.
If everything looks correct, it may be worth resetting the unit. Unplug it for about an hour, clean the filter then plug it back in and see if the issue persists.
If the problem continues, please let me know, and I can assist you further or help arrange a service if necessary.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
Dear,
I bought the meaco 50Lm-v2 and wanted to know if this model stops when the tank is full. I read it makes a sound, but do you have to shut it down manually each time and empty the tank or will it stop before it overflows? We don’t have the option to drain continuously in our basement but we want to leave it on even if we may be not in the house for a few hours…
Thank you
Kevin
Kevin,
Thank you for your query, yes the unit will need to be powered off, there won’t be any water overflow. Please refer to the instruction manual for information on how to empty the tank, as below:
Emptying the water tank
1. When the water tank is full, the ‘FULL’ light will turn on.
2. The dehumidifier will also make a buzzing sound – to stop this, press the power button to turn
the machine off.
3. To empty the water tank, open the front panel. Hold the water tank by its handle and pull it out
horizontally.
4. Empty the water and reinsert the water tank. Close the front panel. The dehumidifier will
continue to run on the previous setting.
Hope that helps,
Omar@Meaco.
Hello, we are unable to switch our Arete 25 off… The child lock is not active and the only way to switch the machine off is unplugging it. When we press on/off button we can hear the bleep but nothing happens…
It’s not resolving even if we leave it unplugged for few hours.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks
Hi Piotr, thank you for getting in touch. To exit child lock, you must hold the night mode button down for 3-4 seonds. If that doesn’t work, try pressing another button within 30 seconds of exiting child lock to confirm the unlock. Let me know how you get on and if you still have the same problem I can further advise.
Thank you,
April
Hello April,
Thx so much for getting back to me. So for some time problem was resolved with no specific action from our side but, now is back again.. We have tried everything and looks like child lock switches on/of but, when unlocked buttons which do not work are “on/of” and “laundry mode” (you can hear the bleep but nothing happens. Night mode and target humidity adjustment work fine👍🤷♂️.
Many thanks
Piotr
I Dear Mr Omar Hassan,
I have just bought a new Meacodry Arete onec25 l.
I have put it on Smart Jumidity Mode.
It has been running for 3 hours now on 53%hr.
And it still does not stop.
Why not?
Yours sincerely
Joannes Van Wolput Belgium
Joannes,
Thank you for your purchase of the Meaco dehumidifier. As per the advice in the manual, subject to your target being set at 55%, once the target of 55%rh has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop. This means, you can expect the relative humidity to be as low as 52% before it stops. Whereby 52% is reading yet the unit continues to run, it is ensuring the relative humidity is stable at this level, only then will it switch off for 30 minutes.
I hope this helps, give us a call if you wish to discuss.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
Also having this problem. Display is 50 and I set it to 55. The dehumidifier continues to run.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you for contacting us about this,
I’d recommend cleaning the filter from any dust built up (ensure your machine is switched off following the cleaning guide on the manual) also using a hair drier, blow across the back of where the filter covers, the coil area, and reinsert your filter and turn on your unit.
If you notice the unit still runs at 50%rh and your target is 55%rh then give our customer service team a call who will be happy to help.
Kind regards,
Omar@Meaco.
6 months ago I bought Areta 20L with an air filter. Unfortunately, when the tank is full, the dehumidifier continues to run. It also doesn’t stop working after pulling container out to empty it.
Albert,
Thank you for your enquiry. Once your tank has reached its maximum capacity please note behavior should be as follows:
Once the water tank is full, the dehumidifier will continue to run in fan only mode for 3 minutes to blow any excess water off the coils and ensure that when you remove the tank there is no water left that could drip out of the spout.
If the water tank is removed during operation, the unit will continue to do the above, if you intend to empty the tank before it is full, pull it out ever so slightly, wait 3 minutes for the unit to finish and blow through the excess and it will stop. You can then completely remove and empty your water collected.
Hope that helps!
Omar@Meaco.
I set it up to 60% it’s reached 58% and still not switch off is this normal
Alex,
Thanks for the question, yes it is normal, please note:
Your default target humidity of 55%rh:
Once the target of 55%rh has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop.
Thereafter every 30 minutes the fan will run and check the humidity level
If the humidity level has increased more than 3% above the target, the compressor will turn on and the dehumidifier will start to run again.
If the humidity level is within 3% of the target, the dehumidifier will go back to sleep and check the humidity level in another 30 minutes.
Hope that helps!
Omar@Meaco.
