There are six world firsts on the DD8L Zambezi ranging from the easy to achieve through to the more ground breaking. We have looked at the digital display which is a rather simple and easy world first to achieve on a desiccant dehumidifier. Next is the ioniser which is far more important in terms of direct benefit to the customer.
Lots of dehumidifiers, especially desiccant dehumidifiers, come with an ioniser but the quality is rather limited, even on the Meaco DD8L. These basic ionisers only deal with dust and they are only effective within a one metre range. So although they are of some use, this use is rather limited.
You can though get ionisers that are much, much more effective and can truly sterlise the air. We learnt of one that had been developed in Japan and although expensive it delivered clinically proven outstanding results and provided real air sterlising benefits to the consumer.
The test results showed beyond doubt that it could deal with not just dust but also odours, moulds, dust mites, viruses and bacteria over a much larger range, 10 metres.
This type of advanced ioniser is used in some high end health products by some major international brands but this is the first time that it has been incorporated into a domestic dehumidifier.
For ourselves it is a very expensive component, the second most expensive one on the dehumidifier, but it is worth it for the benefits that it will bring to the DD8L Zambezi user and their family.
For every Zambezi dehumidifier sold worldwide Meaco will donate £2 to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s conservation work.

Does the Meaco dd8l Zambezi dehumidifier ioniser setting create unsafe ozone?
All ionisers in the world create ozone as a by-product, but in tiny amounts well below the WHO save limit.
