5 Essential Tips to Stay Cool at Summer Festivals

Friends enjoying a festival in the hot British summer

The UK summer festival season is a great way to enjoy the warm weather and embrace the outdoors. However, the humid summer heat can sometimes be overwhelming at events.

Recently, we’ve had stories from customers about MeacoFans at Glastonbury. And last week, we were left with this incredible review from a MeacoFan 260c Cordless Air Circulator customer: “I bought this as I offer therapies at festivals. The tents get very hot in the sun, and my work is very physical. I needed something to keep me cool without a power source. It has worked so well! Powerful enough even on level 1. Lasts literally for days on a low setting. Quick to recharge. Quiet and looks smart in the space too. So good we bought a second one for a friend. Worth every penny!”

We’re so glad to hear how the cordless MeacoFan 260c is a lifesaver when out and about this summer (we’ve taken our MeacoFan 260c camping, on trains and even on planes)!

But this review from a recent MeacoFan convert really got us thinking… how best can we all stay cool and comfortable at festivals specifically? The true outdoor experience: a place where there’s not always guaranteed shade and even if there are covered areas available, these are usually hot, busy tents!

To ensure you stay cool and comfortable, Chris Michael, Managing Director of Meaco has shared five practical tips and a must-have cooling fan for your summer adventures.

How To Keep Cool at Festivals:

  1. Hydration is Key

Staying hydrated is essential. Drinking plenty of water helps regulate your body temperature and keeps you feeling refreshed. Carry a reusable or collapsible water bottle with you and refill it regularly. If you use a carabiner to attach it to your bag you can free up your hands.

GP Dr Angela Rai, agrees and tells The Independent that we should be drinking up to three litres of water per day during a heatwave.

“It is recommended to drink around eight glasses of water per day which equals around 1.5-2 litres per day,” she says. If you think about it, being out all day in the sun, likely dancing and walking around the festival, that’s a workout in the heat so it’s vital to drink lots of water and stay hydrated.

  1. Dress Smart

No, we’re not talking about smart suits! Dress for the weather: wear light, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics like cotton or linen. Light colours reflect sunlight, keeping you cooler than darker shades. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat or baseball cap, sunglasses and suncream to protect yourself from direct exposure to sunlight. As there is not always shade or places to buy sun protection once you’ve entered the festival, you’ll want to make sure to plan ahead.

  2. Take a Portable Fan

A portable fan can be a game-changer in the heat. The MeacoFan 260c portable fan is the perfect companion for any summer event, as we saw with our latest lovely review.Compact, lightweight and USB charged, it provides a refreshing breeze wherever you go.

Its powerful airflow and low noise make it ideal for cooling off in your tent, caravan, camper van or picnic spot. Its batteries are replaceable and can last up to 72 hours on a single charge! Plus, it’s USB type C so it’s easy to plug into a portable charger if you’re away for a few nights and need portable cooling to keep up.

  1. Cool Down with Water

Keep a spray bottle filled with water and mist yourself periodically. The evaporation of water from your skin will provide an instant cooling effect. Additionally, consider using cooling towels that can be soaked in water and draped around your neck.

You can even make this a fun adventure if you’re keeping the kids cool in the sun too! Why not pack some water pistols and make a game of it?

  1. Prioritise Sleep Comfort

Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial, especially in a hot stuffy tent or camper van at a festival. Use a rechargeable portable fan like the MeacoFan 260c to keep the air circulating. Choose a lightweight sleeping bag or just a sheet and sleep in light, moisture-wicking clothing to stay cool and dry. The early morning sun can quickly heat up a tent which makes a portable fan an asset when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, giving you the energy to dance the day and night away.

Glastonbury: The 260c going on tour

As we mentioned earlier in this blog, a recent customer review of the MeacoFan 260c Cordless Air Circulator revealed just how essential it was during Glastonbury this year. Thanks to Emily for sharing your story with us via email!

Known for its unpredictable weather, from the deluge and mud baths of previous years, this year the festival treated music lovers to a heatwave. The temperatures reached 28°C and were accompanied by gorgeous but also relentless sunshine. This was a marked change, as on the whole, this summer has been pretty overcast and wet; not exactly what you’d call traditional festival or camping weather!

Despite the challenging conditions at the festival this year, Emilyfound that the MeacoFan 260c made the sweltering heat bearable, allowing her to keep cool and enjoy performances by the likes of Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Avril Lavigne. From dawn until dusk, and then dawn again: “we used it in the morning from around 6am when the tent got too warm and woke us up, whilst having breakfast by the tents and whilst getting ready”. The 260c proved a great hit all festival long.

Emily noted that while the heat was intense for everyone, so too was the high pollen count for hayfever sufferers, but their trusted MeacoFan provided a much-needed breath of fresh air. The fan’s compact and lightweight design made it easy to carry and didn’t take up much room in their luggage. They even found it a handy accessory to take around the festival site, “it fitted easily into my tote bag and carried it around for the day”.

Charging the fan was a breeze with the USB port on their remote charger. Even when used on higher speeds, the MeacoFan 260c lasted all night and most of the day, showcasing its impressive battery life which can extend up to 72 hours on the lowest setting.

Becoming the envy of their friends, Emily let us know they achieved a cooler, more restful sleep on some of the hottest days of the year by using the MeacoFan 260c Cordless Air Circulator inside their tent. “Everyone seemed to have asked to borrow it at one point or another!” The fan’s ability to maintain a comfortable breeze and circulate air was a game-changer, despite the tent absorbing the heat and becoming a hotbed throughout the day and well into the night. The 260c made enduring the heat much easier, allowing Emily to focus on the festival’s incredible lineup rather than the uncomfortable weather and lack of sleep.

And speaking of sleeping at night, Emily’s top tip is to use the night light: “The night light was also a great addition to provide some light in the tent at night (without even needing to use the fan speeds)!” The night light can be switched on by holding down the On button for a few seconds and offers a soft evening light to any tent – great for drinks with friends at the campsite after dark or if you’re needing a little extra light to apply the last minute mascara before heading out for the headline event.

Emily couldn’t praise it enough for making their Glastonbury experience enjoyable, despite the scorching temperatures. With its excellent performance, portability, and extended battery life, the MeacoFan 260c Air Circulator turned the festival heatwave into a breeze, making it an essential item for any festival-goer. Rock on!

Festival Planning

Staying cool at summer festivals involves a combination of smart planning, the right gear, and simple strategies. Hydrate, dress appropriately, take advantage of portable cooling devices like the MeacoFan 260c, and prioritise your comfort to enjoy your summer adventures comfortably.

The wonderful thing about a portable fan is that it can easily fit into hand luggage to be used on other days out and weekends away during the summer, providing a refreshing breeze to help you rest and relax. Whether camping, glamping, Glastonbury or simply going on a picnic, a quiet portable fan is a must have accessory this summer.
