The Meaco 10L is a dehumidifier suitable for use in small homes up to around 3 bedrooms in size. It is the cheapest portable dehumidifier in the Meaco range if one excludes the rechargeable Mini-D which is purely designed for use in cupboards and storage boxes.
The Meaco 10L is a compressor dehumidifier which means that it extracts the moisture from the air by creating a cold surface inside the dehumidifier using refrigerant and a compressor. The fan on the dehumidifier pulls the air in from the room, over a filter, and onto the cold surface. Condensation occurs and the water droplets run down the cooling coils (i.e. the cold surface), into a gutter and then along the gutter and drip down the spout into the bucket ready for emptying.
The dry air is warmed back up to room temperature by the dehumidifier and comes out of the top vent warmer and dryer.
Who needs this dehumidifier?
The Meaco 10L is usually bought by customers who are looking to dry a damp room or house and might typically be suffering from condensation on the walls, mould in the bathroom/kitchen or a musty smell that indicates the presence of damp.
If this is in a flat or a small to medium size three bedroom home then the Meaco 10L will be able to bring the problem under control and remove enough moisture from the air to lower the relative humidity enough to either eliminate the problem or significantly reduce it.
Living with the Meaco 10L
The 10L has a modern design and offers a nice shape and a change from the rather large and box like dehumidifiers that were common in the 1990s and into the 2000s. It has a relatively small footprint at 29cm x 19cm (11’’ x 7.5’’) so does not take up too much space.
The air comes in the back of the dehumidifier, over a standard dust filter and out of the top of the dehumidifier which is handy for drying washing on a clothes horse a the air will hit the clothes and make them dry faster.
On top it has a carry handle which feels strong and secure, the handle recesses behind the control panel maintaining the smooth lines of the 10L.
Humidity Settings
The control panel itself has two soft touch buttons. The left hand button is a simple On/Off button why the right hand button allows you to select the target relative humidity. On a Meaco control panel the relative humidities are replaced by symbols and you choice here is from top to bottom – a t-shirt symbol, three droplets, two droplets and a thumbs up and a single droplet at the bottom. The logic behind the symbols is that most customers find relative humidity confusing. Does 80%rh mean that the dehumidifier will remove 80% of the moisture from the air or that the relative humidity is high? The answer is that is you see 80%rh as a setting on a dehumidifier it means that the dehumidifier will only work when the relative humidity in the room is above 80%rh. People get confused by this and this is why Meaco have simplified things with the droplet symbols.
The T-Shirt symbol means that the dehumidifier will run continuously and will dry the air as much as it can; this is why it is most suitable for drying washing.
The three droplet symbol means that the Meaco 10L will dehumidify above 40%rh, the recommended setting is represented by the two droplets and the thumbs up symbol and relates to 60%rh and the one droplet relates to 80%rh.
In most circumstances you would use the dehumidifier on the two droplet setting and then switch to three droplets on a particularly cold day and laundry when you need to dry washing. It is doubtful that you would ever use the one droplet setting.
Water tank, power consumption and running costs
When the target relative humidity has been reached the 10L turns itself off and will automatically turn back on when the relative humidity rises again. This helps to keep running costs down and one should avoid dehumidifiers that keep their fan running all of the time because they push electricity bills up.
The 10L is quiet for this grade of dehumidifier and when we use it on the landing outside the shower room it does not disturb anyone’s sleep.
As is common with Meaco dehumidifiers the control panel features a blue trim and the water container at the back of the dehumidifier is a transparent blue as well. The bucket itself uses a magnet inserted into an oblong of polystyrene as its float switch. As the water level rises it lifts the polystyrene up until the magnet comes level with another magnet inside the dehumidifier, this trips a switch and turns the dehumidifier off. This type of float switch is common across the Meaco range and is more reliable and takes up less space than the older lever arm style common on several other dehumidifiers.
Power consumption at 220 watts is lower than many other 10 litre dehumidifiers and is where you would expect the Meaco brand to be, in the top sector of quality brands. This means that your electricity bill for running the dehumidifier will be lower.
Verdict
All in all the Meaco 10L is a good looking, entry level dehumidifier that is easy to live with, it is well engineered and put together and should give several years of trouble free use.

I brought a Meaco 8l . I used it for less than 8 days. It then stopped sucking air. It appeared to have a c1 error. I politely asked customer services for help. After a week of waiting they threw me out and have washed their hands of the problem, telling me to take it up with Amazon. I am so disappointed
Sorry you are not happy with the service but Amazon have an agreement with us on returns and they have stock to give you a new machine. This is why you have been asked to swap it with them, it will be a faster resolution for you.
How accurate is the humidity reading
This is an area where all dehumidifiers are similar, in that they use sensors that are +/-5%rh accurate. We do though choose sensors that offer stability over a long period of time.
I have just recently Brought a 10ltr meaco from yourselves from Amazon website ,received yesterday 7/12/2021, when first put on ,WOW!! sound was lovely , but after approx 10mins prox there came a low sound but high pitch wine & its still there day after, level is good, have tried on wood flooring, now on carpet.Works like a dream, could you tell me please has machine got a problem because this wine doesn’t seem to go away, Susan

Thank you for your purchase. There are two noises that come from a dehumidifier. The first one you hear is just the fan, after three minutes the compressor kicks in. The noise from the compressor will vary over time as it cycles through different activities and runs at different temperatures. It will probably be worse on a wooden floor because you will possibly get some reverb off the floor.

It depends on what you are allergic to, if it is something damp related like mould spores or dust mites then the dehumidifier will help but reducing the relative humidity and sorting the core of the problem. If it is pollen or dust etc then you need an air purifier.
