DD8L Zambezi
Understanding our customer’s needs, and empathising with them over issues of importance, has always been a priority at Meaco. This has resulted in a range of low energy, durable products such as the award-winning low energy dehumidifiers, which lead the way in lowering bills and energy consumption.
The DD8L Zambezi dehumidifier was designed and developed after several years of feedback from customers to address the many problems they were encountering with damp and mould in the winter.
Meaco’s ongoing efforts to support the environment
Customers are increasingly concerned about the impact of their behaviour on the environment. It’s therefore necessary for responsible businesses to demonstrate their ethical values with actions that reduce and off-set environmental costs of their activities.
As part of Meaco’s commitment to environmental sustainability, back in 2016 Meaco teamed up with the Guildford-based wildlife conservation charity the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) to support the care of orphaned elephants in Zambia. With every sale of the DD8L Zambezi a donation is made to the DSWF supported Elephant Orphanage.
“It is a really simple link up and it is something that I would urge other businesses to think about because it is a really easy way for business to help good causes by working together with charities, and in this case, raising awareness for conservation work amongst our customers.“ explains Chris Michael, managing director of Meaco.
Meaco now saves 70,000m of plastic per year
More recently, Meaco has been looking at further ways to reduce its impact on the environment. Plastic usage and the harm it is doing to our planet its at the forefront of customers environmental concerns. Durable and very slow to degrade, plastic materials are used in or as packaging of many products. Of the 260 million tons of plastic the world produces each year, about 10 percent ends up in the Ocean, according to a Greenpeace report (Plastic Debris in the World’s Oceans, 2006).
Meaco took a decision earlier in the year to stop putting drainage hoses inside new dehumidifiers thereby removing around 70,000 metres of plastic hose that might otherwise end up as waste each year. A customer survey revealed that less than 10% of customers use the hose, and a garden hose would make a suitable substitute if needed. Removing the hose was trialled with the low energy range 18 months ago and has now extended across the whole domestic range.
