One of the most popular features on our website is the ability of customers to ask a question about a particular dehumidifier. We gets lots of questions from customers every single day. Occasionally I post the questions and answers here so that more people can see the answers. Today’s batch cover;
-
Which dehumidifier is best for a conservatory?
-
Does the desiccant need to be replaced on a DD8L?
-
Does the filter need to be changed on the DD8L?
-
Are there any consumables on the DD8L?
-
Can the Meaco 20L be used with an extension lead?
-
What do the symbols mean on the Meaco 10L?
Using a dehumidifier in a conservatory
Conservatories tend to suffer from a lot of condensation because they use glass for their walls and ceiling which means that the surfaces are colder and much closer to the outside temperature than a normal brick wall would be. At night temperatures drop faster in a conservatory because of the lack of insulation and condensation forms on the glass.
Conservatories tend to be next to kitchens and/or become a convenient location for drying washing and these factors will increase the amount of moisture in the air.
The correct dehumidifier to use in a conservatory is one that is used to temperatures below 16°C because of that overnight drop in temperature so it has to be a desiccant dehumidifier because the temperature in winter is likely to spend most of its time overnight well below 10°C.
So the best dehumidifier for a conservatory would be the Meaco DD8L or the Meaco DD8L Junior.
Do you replace the desiccant on the DD8L?
The simple answer is no – the desiccant will be good for the life of the dehumidifier.
Does the filter need to be changed on the DD8L?
No – just vacuum it on a regular basis (every week or so please).
Are there any consumables on the DD8L?
No.
Can the Meaco 20L be used with an extension lead?
Yes – as long as the extension lead is in good working order (which applies to any electrical appliance really).
What do the symbols on the Meaco 10L mean?
On the left from top to bottom we have;
Power
Tank full
Defrost mode
On the right from top to bottom we have the humidistat set points
Laundry mode – which runs continuously
40%rh
60%rh
80%rh

Hi there how many smart devices can you connect to the arte 2? We have 2 smart phones in the house but it seems it will only work with one device. We both downloaded the app and only one device it seems can control the dehumidifier.
Thanks.
Garry H
Garry,
Thank you for your enquiry. You can connect as many smart devices as you like to the AreteTwo. There are two options for this:
Option 1 – You can log into the Meaco app with the same login (same email) on multiple devices, allowing both phones to control the dehumidifier.
Option 2 – The main account can share the device with another account. You can find instructions on how to do this in the video at the 02:37 timestamp.
I hope this helps!

Ive recently bought a 20lt Arete One, ive been using it in my living room with door closed. When it reaches 55/52%rh it turns off, then it turns back on in half an hr and the Rh level has gone up again by , this keeps happening for as long as i leave it on, how does the relative go up by 10/20% in such a short time?
Mary,
Thank you for your purchase. What you’re describing is actually quite common in situations where the dehumidifier is placed in a smaller, enclosed space like a living room with the door closed.
When the door is closed, the air in the room has limited airflow. Once the dehumidifier reaches a set target humidity level (55% or 52% RH, in your case), it switches off because it thinks the room is dry enough. However, with little air circulation, humidity levels can naturally rise again quickly, often due to moisture coming from various sources like people’s breath, cooking, or even the walls and furniture releasing moisture. The size of the room and its ability to exchange air with the outside can also influence the RH levels. If the room is not well-ventilated, humidity can quickly build up even after the dehumidifier shuts off.
To help with this issue, I’d recommend allowing some air circulation in the room to help prevent the humidity from rising too quickly. Try keeping the door slightly open or using a fan in the room to encourage airflow. Also if your environment is naturally more humid, you may want to decrease the target humidity level (e.g., set it to 50% RH) so the dehumidifier doesn’t turn off too soon. This can help maintain a more consistent level.
I hope this helps.

Just bought the Meaco Arete two 12l. A flashing teardrop light under the Dry word/light came on for a few minutes then went off. What was it indicating/telling me??
Thanks
Cedric,
Thank you for your purchase! The blinking icon indicates that the dehumidifier is in pairing mode. By using the Meaco app, you can pair the device and control it from your phone. For detailed instructions on how to set this up, please watch the setup video here.
I hope that helps.

Hello, looking for advice.
I thought perhaps moisture was my issue but rooms are reading extremely dry using my Meacodry arête two 10L
Could this mean air quality issue?
It’s an old house. Old stone walls
Ive had it on air purification since the readings were verified.
Suzanne,
Thank you for reaching out.
Please note:
In Air Purification Mode, the dehumidifier will not be extracting moisture; it will only purify the air. If you’re looking to manage the humidity levels in your home, you should use the Smart Humidity Mode instead. This mode will automatically target a humidity level of 55% RH, which is considered optimal and not too dry.
If you find the air too dry, you can increase the target humidity to 60% RH through the settings.
Should you need further assistance or have any questions, feel free to give us a call.

I have just purchased meaco dry arete one and plugged it in. It was on for about 10 mins in my kitchen and then switched off. The humidity level is 52. Even though I have washing in the kitchen which is not fully dry
Caroline,
Thank you for your purchase, wet washing does not automatically equal a high relative humidity. If you would like the machine to run and collect water then either set the target to be low 50, or select Laundry Mode. If the room is at 52%rh, then the washing will dry anyway in about 6-8 hours.

I’ve recently bought Arete 12l and the child lock doesn’t seem to work well at all. It keeps disengaged with just few seconds of holding random buttons, which doesn’t seem very child friendly. I keep putting it on via app, it makes the right sound and the next thing I know it’s off again or worse the device isn’t coming up on the app anymore, which I presume happens with the laundry button being held as it puts it in pairing mode. Any advice how to make it more child safe?
Thank you for your purchase. On the APP or the machine you can select child lock by pressing the Night Mode button for three seconds.

Hello, I have a 12l Arete One, which is a replacement as the last broke under warranty and couldn’t be repaired. This one seems to work a lot better and gets the house down to 55-52% Rh. The fan comes on periodically to check the humidity and then switches off again as its still low. The machine has collected some water each day. But if I push smart laundry the humidity jumps to 70%! Any idea why it would do this?
Ian,
Thank you for this. The machine is fine, what is happening is that it is reaching target relative humidity and then switching off. When you turn it back on by pressing Laundry Mode it then shows you the internal relative humidity of the machine, this will always be high, the fan starts to run, and the relative humidity reading will then quickly change to the room reading.
All normal.
Chris
