Air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and humidifiers are a great invention when it comes to improving the quality of the air in your home and increasing your comfort. Many of our customers notice a massive improvement in their quality of life after using these products – anything from improving the quality of air, less allergic reactions, less dry skin or sore throats and a better nights sleep for their children (and for mum and dad!).
With such changeable weather here in the UK, we are looking at how using these products in your bedroom can improve your sleep and how you can use your dehumidifier all year-round! We will look at how they can be used to support comfort cooling and also remove the stickiness we all feel during hot summer nights and thunderstorms.
We all want our bedrooms to be a peaceful place where you can fall away to a good night’s sleep, even on those hot uncomfortable summer nights. Unfortunately, a comfortable night’s sleep might not be accessible to us for many reasons.
Using an air purifier to improve your sleep
Firstly, it is possible you could be allergic to your own bedroom. This reduces your chances of falling asleep due to coughing, snoring and sneezing due to allergic reactions. It also might not help you or anyone that you might be sharing the bed with!
You can be allergic to your own bedroom because of dust mites, mould spores, pollen or pet dander, for example. If that is the case then an air purifier or combined dehumidifier and air purifier can help you create a place of sanctuary, free from the allergens so that you can sleep better.
By filtering out the pollutants in the air around you that make it difficult to stay rested, an air purifier’s HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter will trap harmful particles and circulate clean air throughout the room, improving your sleep. HEPA filters have been designed according to strict international regulations to capture dust, pet dander, pollen, dust mites, smoke, some bacteria, pathogens, microbial spores, and some virus particles.
MeacoDry Arete® One 6L combined Dehumidifier/ Air Purifier (Warm Pebble) in bedroom, the perfect solution for managing damp, mould, condensation and supporting a good night’s sleep.
Through its filtration system it will help to keep you healthy, boost your immune system and help to fight off any viruses. The HEPA filter will remove the irritating particles from the air, improving the air to reduce or remove your reactions to the allergens and to allow you to fall asleep faster and longer.
Our range of combined Dehumidifier and Air Purifiers are the ideal solution for 2-in-1 air treatment as they help manage humidity and airborne allergies, in one compact unit.
A place of calm
Our combined air purifiers have been engineered with special features to make sure you get a restful night’s sleep. Night Mode ensures that your unit continues to function without disturbing your sleep, by switching off all lights and beeps and, on our Arete® Two series, reducing the fan speed and therefore noise level too.
A dedicated Air Purifier Mode allows you to run the unit specifically to target allergies and runs even quieter. The choice is yours.

Using a dehumidifier to improve your sleep
A dehumidifier’s main function is to manage humidity levels and prevent damp, mould and condensation issues. In the summer, this can also be especially useful to remove the “stickiness” we experience during thunderstorms or after very hot days.
Mould and Dust Mites Allergies
A lower, well managed relative humidity (%RH) in the bedroom will mean less allergic reactions to mould spores. We recommend setting your target humidity to between 50 to 55%RH.
In turn, this will also manage any dust mites as well as humidity This is because the dust mites reproduction slows when the relative stays consistently below 50%RH. As there can be as many as 10 million dead and alive dust mites in your mattress, anything you can do to reduce their numbers has to be a good thing!
Many customers also tell us that they find the white noise calming and it helps them sleep. Especially from our new Arete® range which are the quietest dehumidifiers on the market. But for those who find still the noise too loud, the dehumidifier can be positioned on the landing with the bedroom door left open during the day for the damp to circulate to the dehumidifier or Night Mode can be used.
By reducing airborne moisture levels it will be easier for your heating system to maintain your desired room temperature, in these days of high energy bills this is a real bonus.

Thunderstorms and hot sticky nights
Summer isn’t just about high temperatures. It’s not even just about dust mites either! It’s often the humidity that makes your home feel uncomfortable. Whether you’re trying to get to sleep on a warm, muggy evening or waiting for a thunderstorm to pass, excess moisture in the air can leave your home feeling sticky, stuffy and far warmer than the thermometer suggests. That’s because humid air makes it much harder for your body to cool itself naturally, leaving you feeling clammy and restless, especially at night.
A dehumidifier helps restore comfort by quietly removing excess moisture from the air. As humidity levels drop, your home begins to feel fresher, lighter and noticeably more comfortable. Bedding no longer feels damp, sofas and cushions lose that slightly clammy feel, and rooms become much more pleasant places to relax. Many people find they sleep better too, as a drier environment helps the body regulate its temperature more effectively throughout the night.
This can be especially welcome during the UK’s humid summer weather. After heavy rain or thunderstorms, humidity often lingers long after the clouds have disappeared, leaving your home feeling close and uncomfortable. Running a dehumidifier during these periods quickly brings humidity back to a comfortable level, helping your home recover from that post-storm damp and stickiness much faster.
While a dehumidifier won’t lower the actual temperature of a room, reducing humidity can make it feel cooler and noticeably more comfortable. Instead of relying solely on air conditioning or constantly running fans, managing humidity creates a more comfortable indoor environment naturally. It’s a simple change that can make a surprisingly big difference to how your home feels throughout the summer, helping you stay comfortable whether you’re working from home, enjoying a quiet evening or settling down for a good night’s sleep.
Our top tip for using a dehumidifier to enhance your comfort during summer is to keep windows closed. This is so the dehumidifier can focus on managing humidity in your room and not drawing in moist air from outside.

Using a Humidifier to improve your sleep
Converse to a dehumidifier, it might be a humidifier you need!
If you’re suffering from a blocked nose, dry skin, your partners’ snoring or simply looking to create a healthy environment for your baby, a humidifier like the Meaco Armin® is the best option for you. While helping you breathe better and improving your night’s sleep, it will also help your skin and can become part of your beauty regime whilst you sleep!
Reduce snoring
Snoring can affect anyone and can really disturb you and your partners’ sleep. It can be triggered by breathing in dry air, which will cause dehydration in your airways, leading to a buildup of thick mucus, inflammation of your nasal tissues, and increased surface tension, which can trigger snoring. A humidifier will keep the air moist and will reduce your snoring by making sure your dry throat doesn’t affect your nasal passage and reducing nasal congestion.
The humidifier gently humidifies the room air to just the right level which helps to relieve itchy, or irritated skin, chapped lips and dry eyes and is effective in fighting against viruses. A room with a higher humidity level can limit the spread of viruses on surfaces and in the air.
Sleep like a baby
Your baby can also benefit from having a humidifier in their bedroom. Their skin can be particularly sensitive in dry climates, but a humidifier in a baby nursery can provide protection against dry air to create the perfect breathing conditions that will loosen any build-up mucus and help your baby sleep peacefully. Or if your baby’s skin is dry, a humidifier will help retain its natural moisture and keep the skin soft and clear, helping any tender red patches.
Trying to sleep with a blocked up nose
Trying to fall asleep when you’re ill is always uncomfortable. As you breathe, the cilia will prevent germs, dust, bacteria and other foreign particles from entering your nasal passages and causing an illness. When your nasal airways are too dry, your cilia won’t function effectively. However, when you use a humidifier, it will ensure that your nasal passages are moist and that bacteria and germs will be warded off.
Whether you’re looking to fight off illnesses, prevent dust mites or simply improve your family’s sleep, our products can accommodate your needs. These air treatment products can be beneficial to you, your home and furniture.
