Meaco launches quietest dehumidifier: the MeacoDry Arete One

Meaco is delighted to announce the launch of the new Arete One – the quietest Meaco dehumidifier yet. This newest model has been designed following nearly five years of development, involving gathering feedback from over 2000 customers about what they liked and disliked about their Meaco dehumidifiers. Having obtained ideas and a deeper insight into how the typical British customer uses their dehumidifier, Arete One was created not from the viewpoint of what is cheapest to manufacture or what will be easiest to put together, but from what is best for the consumer, what will make the customer’s life easier and what will make living with a dehumidifier more of a pleasure.

Every detail of the dehumidifier has been meticulously thought through and re-examined, resulting in the MeacoDry Arete range, which will set a new standard for dehumidifiers. Arete One is the first in the range to be launched, with a 20L and 25L capacity. Further models will be introduced in future months.

Meaco dehumidifier sales topped 130,000 last year and this launch coincides with the increased demand for dehumidifiers ), due in part to lockdowns meaning more time spent at home, which has caused moisture and damp issues. People are also increasingly aware of the benefits of clean air in the home.

What’s in a name?

The Arete range is named after a Greek Goddess that stands for excellence in all things and moral virtual. This represents the time and care that has gone into every aspect of the dehumidifier design. All the small details improve the user experience and enhance the dehumidifier to a level where it stands out from the competition. The moral virtual matches Meaco’s strong stance on plastic waste and the removal of polystyrene from its smaller products – even though this reduces profits.

Dehumidifiers should be seen and not heard

With many people using their dehumidifier in or close to a bedroom, Meaco customers wanted low noise levels. At 40 and 40dB, Arete One’s 20L and 25L are the quietest Meaco machines ever produced and twice as quiet as the industry standard.

Cleaner air with a medical-grade HEPA filter

COVID-19 and the public’s increased awareness of the importance of clean air in the home has become a factor when buying dehumidifiers. Previously, Meaco introduced a HEPA filter to its dehumidifiers which proved to be a massive success. Arete improves on this with a larger filter, of better quality, due to a superior fan motor. The Arete One dehumidifier comes with a larger medical grade H13 HEPA filter that can easily be cleaned from the side without having to move the unit. Arete can be used to clean the air during dehumidification or as a stand-alone air purifier throughout the spring and summer months.

A night mode that really lets you sleep

Meaco customers were keen to have a product that allowed them to get a good night’s sleep. By selecting Night Mode on the Arete, every light is turned off, the fan speed drops to a quiet low mode and there will be no bleeps or sudden noises to wake anyone. Customers can even check what the humidity is while in Night Mode without having to come out of the mode and with no noise being generated.  Little fingers won’t accidentally change this either, because it takes two confirming touches to turn the machine back to its normal mode. This setting can be used at any point when users would like the dehumidifier to be as quiet as possible.

Stylish design

An interesting piece of feedback was that customers do not put their dehumidifier away when they are not using it, but leave it in the same spot all year.  A dehumidifier is normally sold as a small home appliance, but as it is most likely to be used in the hallway or on the landing, it becomes a piece of furniture in a fixed position rather than an appliance. Arete has been stylishly designed in a way to help it blend in, and fitting flat against a wall will take up less space. Feet hide its casters and ensure it is still easy to move when required.

Keeping operation as simple as possible

Simple one-touch operation

The control panel on Arete One is simple and clearly laid out. The buttons used the most often are large and the buttons less used are small. This is a simple but effective design technique that might be commonplace on something like a microwave but has previously not been seen on a dehumidifier. There are large buttons for Smart Humidity Control and Smart Laundry, either of which can be set by just pressing a single button.

Dehumidifiers are fairly straight forward appliances to use but most people do not have the time or the inclination to learn all the features and quirks of the product The Arete One makes it easy: the machine still has an electric defrost system and will still change fan speed as the humidity in the room changes.

Emptying the water tank with no spillage

The Arete One has a large 4.8-litre tank which is more suited to the machines high extraction rate and saves users from emptying the water tank as regularly.

Arete has been designed to make removal of the tank easier, with two large slots left and right of the machine that fingers naturally drop into, giving the perfect purchase on the tank to smoothly pull it out. Users can then place it flat on the floor and lift it by its colour coded handle. Pouring the water out has been made simpler by the introduction of two slots, one to the left and one to the right, so water can be poured out either way without having to twist awkwardly.

Continuous drainage

Meaco is committed to the environment and has already moved away from using polystyrene in its packaging for fans and humidifiers. In 2020, its policy of not including a hose with every dehumidifier sale saved 130,000 meters of unnecessary plastic, much of which would have ended up in landfills. As part of this continued drive to reduce plastic waste, Arete has been designed so it can be emptied using an ordinary garden hose, attached via an adapter, stored in the lid of the water tank.

In addition, a huge bonus will be the option of a built-in pump allowing continuous water drainage, important when the dehumidifier is used in a vacant property or garage, and there is no one to keep an eye on it. This is powered by the dehumidifier itself.

  1. Hi.
I live in a small two bedroom cottage that has one bathroom. I get mould on the windows and a lot of condensation in the winter, especially in the bedrooms and porch. I work full time so need to dry washing indoors in the winter and it can take two days to dry a rack of clothes. With this in mind I’m considering buying a dehumidifier but I’m not sure which one would be best for me. Can you advise please? Thank you

  2. I have a Drimaster heat PIV unit postioned in the attic and distributing to the hall. Which unit would be most suitable, bungalow size about 115m2 & could i put it in the hall where the PIV is located centre of house? I do like the Hepa filter so one with that would be great.

  3. I bought a Medco Platinum 12l Dehumidifier 6 years ago & it is used daily in our bathroom after our showers. It recently developed a habit of flashing -9 when switched on and the display flashed constantly. The unit is still effectively reducing the humidity as witnessed by the same amount of water in the tank as on previous days. I rang Customer Service and a delightfully helpful lady called Teresa talked me through a possible solution to the problem. I have used this advice to good effect and the unit is functioning correctly again. The problem was caused by dust on the sensor unit and I now know what to do if this occurs again. I commend Teresa for her help and I am extremely impressed by your customer service.
As my unit is 6 years old if it does go wrong in the future I would not hesitate to buy another updated version directly from Meaco.
It is brilliant that long after the warranty has expired that Meaco Customer Service via Teresa are interested in helping me to ensure my unit continues to work instead of trying to immediately sell me a replacement. I am not surprised that Meaco Dehumidifiers are a WHICH Recommended appliance. As a WHICH subscriber I hope that I have contributed to this rating. I bought this dehumidifier on WHICH recommendation in 2016 and I am delighted to see the WHICH endorsement continues up to and including 2021.
Well done to a company that cares about it’s customers needs and helps effectively long after the warranty had expired. Thank you.

  4. I have always been a fan of Meaco after buying the 12 Litre Platinum Low Energy Dehumidifier.
I have been using this for several years with no issues but after seeing the Arete with it’s extra quite night time mode I decided to buy this to be used in our bedroom.

There is a very bad vibration noise from the unit which is stood on a thick carpet with decent underlay. I would have thought this would be enough to reduce the noise.

I have now swapped the units location which now stands in our orangery again on a descent carpet but the noise can be heard over the TV in a different room.

Any ideas on what might be causing this or suggestions on what to do would be very welcome.

    1. Feel free to send a sound recording in to us using your phone and we will have a listen for you. Don’t record it in the airflow, position the phone to the side of the machine please.

      1. I purchased a MeacoDry Arete One 20L. When it reaches the humidity leve,l is it supposed to switch off completely so the machine is silent as at the moment it isn’t?

        1. Tom,

Thank you for your purchase. It will turn off the compressor and the fan when the relative humidity is 3%rh below your target. You can check your target by pressing the droplet button once.

  5. Hi, I would like to be able to use a remote plug (controlled via my phone) to switch the dehumidifier on & off. Do you know if this would be possible? My concern is that when powered on it go to standby mode rather than simply actually starting.
    Thanks,
    John.

    1. Remote plugs are a bad idea with dehumidifiers and invalidate the warranty. All dehumidifiers need to go through a shutdown cycle when you press the off button and invoking a power cut through a switch like this stops this from happening.

  6. On the 28/09/2021 I purchased a MeacoDry Arete One 20L from John Lewis. My choice of this model dehumidifier was based partly on its claimed low noise level.

Initially I was rather disappointed with the amount of noise it produced. Applying modest hand pressure to the outer case reduced the low frequency buzzing sound but it returned on removal of hand pressure.

The machine does, however, work very well indeed.

    I will appreciate your comments.

    1. Robin,

Thank you for your purchase. Putting your hand on the machine will make it quieter because the vibration from the compressor is transferred through your body and this tells us that your mass is great than the machine’s mass. To make any dehumidifier quieter you can put a piece of carpet under it (especially useful if you have it on a wooden floor), make sure it is on a level surface and remove the HEPA filter. All of these will effect the decibel rating. If you have it on a wooden floor you could also consider a vibration matt which you can buy from Amazon.

      Chris
