There is no escaping it, energy bills are horrendous at the moment and there does not seem to be any sign that prices will start to fall anytime soon. Even though there is a predicted price drop in energy prices, these costs are still far higher than what before Covid-19. This is why energy efficiency makes more sense than ever.
Our promise to make our products energy efficient
At Meaco, we understand the importance of this. In creating a product that fulfils your needs, works quietly and efficiently, all at a low running cost. Keeping electricity bills as low as possible has always made sense, this is why we launched our Low Energy range back in 2012. In the meantime we have worked hard to refine energy consumption, to ensure all our products are as energy efficient as possible.
Take our latest range of dehumidifiers as an example. Our MeacoDry Arete One range was created after 5 years of research and development. We are very proud that our products do the same job as our competitors (often extracting more water than our peers), but they use less energy and therefore cost you less money in electricity.
We are so proud of our designs and we have so much confidence in their superior build quality. That is why we are so transparent and make the effort to list the ‘cost to run per hour’ on every product page. And we make sure to keep these prices up to date with the latest energy costs. Right now, we sit on 28.62p an hour/kWh – accurate as of Feb 2024 from Energy Saving Trust. (to). All the following data is based on British conditions, with the relative humidity of 60% for temperatures between 10°C and 20°C..
We would urge you to look at these costs, because by buying a Meaco product you could save yourself several £100s in electricity costs, over the lifespan of the product.
Dehumidifiers
In our research, we found that the Meaco Arete One 20L was £140.15 a year cheaper to run than our worst performing competitor (based on six hours use per day for 365 days). The competitor with the best cost to run was still £38.33 more expensive than the Arete One 20L (to run for 1 year). If you keep your machine for 5 years, that is a minimum saving of £191.65 to a massive £700.15!
Considering that the purchase cost of this model is £259.99 the savings in electricity usage are much greater than the actual cost of the dehumidifier in the first place.
Fans
It is not just our dehumidifiers that are cheap to run, our fans are designed in the same way. In low fan speed, the MeacoFan 1056 can cool you extremely efficiently for less than 10 watts.
For a practical example, if you were to use the MeacoFan 1056 next to your bed, to keep you cool at night for 8 hours a day, for a month, it would cost you about 70p for the entire month of improved sleep! That is how energy-efficient and cost-effective our products can be.
The consumer association Which? recently carried out similar testing, which revealed that using an energy-hungry kitchen appliance like a fridge or a washing machine, versus using an energy-efficient model, can be very damaging to your wallet. For example, the difference in running costs per year for the best and worst fridge freezers was a remarkable £138.00. Read the full story here.
With electricity costing so much these days this research highlights why it is so important for us all to think carefully before buying an electrical product. Paying a little bit extra for quality can save us a fortune in electricity within months.
*Meaco research carried out by comparing the wattages for competitive dehumidifiers listed on manufacturers websites October 2023.
Saving money is important to our customers worldwide. If you’d like to know more about how dehumidifiers can save you money in other countries too, please have a look at our Norwegian reseller’s blog:

Hi
I have a Meaco arête 20L wish is excellent
My question is I live in a 2 bedroom end terrace and recently had a roof leak in my bedroom, the dehumidifier has worked brilliantly but still waiting for the roof to be repaired, should I leave dehumidifier in my bedroom or can you advise the best place to put it for the all the house to benefit
Thank you for your enquiry,
It would be advisable to still allow the dehumidifier to reach all areas of the house however nearer to any areas which may have a higher damp issue.
I hope this helps.
Omar@Meaco.
Having recently purchased an Arete 20l for overall control, so far impressed at the machine.
As we control humidity to improve home life whist having severe COPD so the air filter is brilliant.
Question is does the Arete 10l have an air filter also as we would like to use a smaller device in the bedroom ?
Thank you.
Thank you for your enquiry, if you are querying the HEPA filter compatibility on the AreteOne 10L, please note that yes, it does have this option.
HEPA filters can be purchased via http://www.meaco.com and will be available around mid-January.
Regards,
Omar.
Dehumidifier for smallish conservatory, which model would you suggest please
Thank you for your enquiry,
Could you advise of:
– No. of bedrooms?
– No. of occupants?
– Average temperatures?
– What issues you are looking to tackle?
We can then determine the right type and size dehumidifier.
You can send your reply to sales @ meaco . com
Omar@Meaco
It’s only for condensation in the conservatory
Hi, what is the difference between the Arete 12L and the Meaco 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier and Air Purifier?
Thank you for your enquiry,
The main difference is that the AreteOne is our newest dehumidifier with which you will have a longer warranty cover, 5 years compared to 2 years (for the Low Energy).
Various other differences, the link below will demonstrate:

Looking at a 10L model dehumidifier and wondered if this can be piped directly into a sink via a hose given that the property will be empty?
Thank you for your enquiry,
Yes certainly, using the adaptor provided.
As a company we understand the urgency of Climate Change and recognise how important it is to play our part in becoming more environmentally friendly. In September 2019 we stopped providing hoses with our dehumidifiers to reduce the amount of plastic going to waste. To make things easier for our customers who wish to use continuous drainage, we have included an adaptor which fits a standard garden hose (ID: 12.5mm).
Hope this helps.
Omar@Meaco
Thank you, no the property will not be empty.
Hi there!
I just wonder,as it is not a cheap device,if I but it and then it just doesn’t work as expected, would it be possible to get a refund?
Thank you!
We really hope you liked your Meaco product, however we understand sometimes things do not work out and you want your money returned. We offer our customers 14 days from the date of delivery to request a refund and kindly ask that the product is in a resalable condition*. Hi,
I live in 2 bed property with small space. Should I buy 10 or 12 lites. I would maybe move into 3 bed. What is the measurement difference?
Thanks
Hello,
Thanks for your comment. A 12L would prove more useful with extracting more moisture from your home and performing in the higher humidity scenarios. A 12L would also prove more useful should you move into a 3 bedroom.
For more information and support, please give our sales team a call.

Hi
What models can be Plummed into so we don’t have to worry about emptying please
Can this be placed in a cupboard with vents or does it need to be in the open
Thanks
Hi Dom,
Various models you can choose from to connect a hose to and have the water always run through this and continue to empty rather than into the tank.
Definitely not a good idea to put this unit in a cupboard, you’ll be restricting the air flow majorly. Use it in a space that is at least 4m².
Please contact sales AT meaco.com for more information.

I live I na, 2 bed terraced house with a through lounge/kitchen/diner on the ground floor. Using the Arete 12l I cannot get the humidity down to 55% – running 24/7 it fluctuates between65 and 58…should I have bought the 20L?
No, just keep on running it and leave it to run 24/7. It has to dry the space and all of the things in the space (floor, walls, furniture, clothes, papers, books, anything wooden etc.) This takes time, but it will get there.
Dear Chris.
I have recently purchased the Arete 12L and it seems than some humid days , it does not reach 55% target of Humidity running 24/7, trying to dehumidify 3 of my bedrooms /hallway house (around 35m2 all together) , leaving all doors open to let as good as it gets air flow between these 3 rooms which are heated around 18c.
I am therefore wondering if maybe ,I should have buy arerete 20/25L version vas it seems to have difficulties on humid days.
Nevertheless I am intending to buy a second dehumidifier for the other half of my house ( 35m2 open plan kitchen) , living room and the reel purpose of adressing you today is that I have a technical questions regarding the 12 and 25L.
If, as it says on the specs, the bigger 25L deshumifier remove almost 2 liters more of water per day (at 20c/60% humidity) and consume almost 40% more energy to do so than the smaller 12L model.
Does it means that means that the bigger model would take less time (maybe even half the time as it has double dehumidifing capacity) to achieve target mentioned above, therefore cycle a lot more when target is achieved and therefore, could potientially use less or comparable electricty than 12L model?
Does it means that smaller 12L model would just have to work longer and harder to reach the same target but would still remain more economical?
And last question of all, coming back to my first introduction case, if I get a second deshumifier for the second part of my house, should I purchase the 20L or even need the 25L to make sure it reduce humidity more efficiently ? (number of cycle vs cost).
Hope all this make sense.
Kind regards
David
david,
Thank you for your purchase and your questions.
A larger machine will always cost less to run when you look at it in terms of electricity consumed/litres of water collected, so to get the job done the larger machine is faster and cheaper to run.
The 12l will get there in the end but because of the moisture that is retained in the organic material in the space plus the moisture that you are adding to the space each day, it is taking a while and some days it is losing the battle. A larger machine is always a good idea and is never money wasted.
Chris
Thanks Chris.
I wish Maeco would have put this information online in the spec so it also helps making a descision on purchase as well as giving you the model you need according to number of rooms or surface.
I know it is commun sense that bigger is better but in this case the wattage comsumption and quantity of water withdrawns per day are a bit misleading to me as they don’t refer to the same amount of water withdrawn from the air in you charts. It would have been helpfull to have a worksheet comparing models and time taken and energy consumed to do the same job (removing same amount of water in the same humidity/house ratio).
Not even mentioning the importance of noise level, What would you go for if you had the choice between up to 24hrs per day of 38 decibels and many less hours per day of 40 decibels to do the same job?
So to resume, if you can afford it, the bigger is the better, the faster and therefore not necessary the most power hungry and certainly not the necessary the noisier as it does cycle and remains 0 decibels more than smaller models.
Having say that, I would advise anybody to buy Meaco arete which to me is the best make in this trade.
Thanks you again to Chris for taking a bit of his time to answer people questions.
Regard
David
Hello Chris,
I am looking to buy a dehumidifier for my house (around 70 sq meters). I had some general humidity and mold problem, but in the bedroom, there was a leak from the outside which made the walls damp (almost raining inside) – which now should be fixed, but still, the smell of the mold is strong.
I would like to buy one of these two models – which one do you advise me to purchase, considering my situation?
Thanks

Gio,
Sorry to hear that. The Arete will be quieter and since you want to use it around a bedroom that is an important factor.
